Arrival in a new country &
Start of quarantine in Belfast

On the day of departure, 12.06.2021, we met at about 8 am at BER airport. 6 people, all from the OSZ for Information and Medical Technology, our vocational school. Two of them I already knew from my class, the other three I met for the first time. As a freshly formed group, we immediately made our way to check-in.

On to the gate

The security checks went off without any major complications and we were able to take off punctually at 10:40. Fortunately, I was able to get a window seat and had no seat neighbours. Despite the relatively short flight, I enjoyed the wonderful view and took a lot of pictures.

After a successful landing in Dublin, some of us had a snack at McDonald's and together we waited for the bus to take us to Belfast City.

Eat and wait

After arriving in Belfast City, we were shipped into taxis by the Intern Europa team and taken to our accommodation for the next two months (169 Ormeau Rd). In front of our accommodation we were welcomed by another member of Intern Europa, who assigned us to our rooms and briefly explained the house rules. By now it was 5pm, we organised some groceries for the coming week in quarantine, using the Tesco online shop.

After finishing the shopping, we ended the day relaxing together by sitting in the living room and talking. Later, the Electronic Entertainment Expo was on, which we watched together and discussed.

Eating pizza and watching E3

One by one, my flatmates said goodbye and I went to bed to process all the impressions I had gathered today.

As soon as I got into bed, I fell asleep.

Thank you for a wonderful day!

1st week in Belfast
(Day 1 - Day 7 in quarantine)

Day 1: Since we are at the beginning of quarantine and don't have much to work with, I got up at 10am and got ready for the day. As some of us had already finished breakfast, I joined the others, ate and planned the day. We did a little online shopping at Tesco and thought about what we would like to eat for the day. As I hadn't got round to unpacking my bags yet, I went up to my room to do so. Unfortunately, I couldn't quite complete the task because the fire alarm in the house went off for no apparent reason. All six of us quickly got out and stood in front of the door on the street.  Fortunately, a staff member from Intern Europe was there to greet and instruct our two new guests from the Czech Republic. Sadly, the fire alarm can only be switched off in the neighbouring house and it took some time until it worked. So, despite the quarantine, we could already breathe a little of the good Belfast air. 5th week in Belfast
(Orange Day, Hospital and New Castle)

We are very lucky to be here in the country for a special day that is mainly celebrated in Northern Ireland. It is the official feast day by the 'Protestant Loyalists'. Here is a small excerpt from the corresponding Wiki article: "The Twelfth (also called the Glorious Twelfth or Orangemen's Day) is an Ulster Protestant celebration held on 12 July. It celebrates the Glorious Revolution of 1688 and victory of Protestant King William of Orange over Catholic King James II at the Battle of the Boyne 1690, which ensured a Protestant Ascendancy in Ireland. On and around the Twelfth, large parades are held by the Orange Order and Ulster loyalist marching bands, streets are covered with British flags and bunting, and large towering bonfires are lit in loyalist neighbourhoods." Today we plan to climb the Napoleon's Nose in Cavehill country park around midnight. Yes, the hilltop we climbed as a group last week. I can highly recommend the park to anyone who ever gets to B...
